Mommy Monster

I have started a new Bible study this week titled “No More Perfect Moms” by Jill Savage. This study is exactly what I needed because unfortunately the Mommy Monster comes out at my house more than she should. You see, my name is Jenny and I am a perfectionist. However, this does not mesh well with mommy hood. Why? Because neither myself nor my daughters are perfect people. I know you are shocked by this revelation!

Its the unrealistic expectations that I bring upon myself and my girls that cause this monster to rear her ugly head. God is revealing to me that having these unrealistic expectations are going to make my life and my girls’ lives miserable. They will tear us apart and I am not willing to let that happen just so that the people around me can think that I am supermom.

What unrealistic expectations do you have? What could hinder your happiness? What could cause or is causing unneeded stress and pressure in your life?

Is it frustration that your body will not let you breastfeed? Because we all know that “you are a horrible mom because you aren’t nursing”. (PS, YOU ARE NOT A HORRIBLE MOM IF YOU CAN’T BREASTFEED)

Is it frustration that your 1 year old won’t potty train? Newsflash….they are still a baby! Stop making them grow up before they are developmentally ready? This is going to cause unnecessary frustration in your home. (Rant over)

Is it frustration because the other moms around you feed their children all organic, natural, vegan food at every meal and it is all you can do to get them fed, period? #mcdonaldsforthesecondtimethisweek

The list of frustrations could go on and on. My question to you: is it all worth it? Is it worth the anger, frustration, heartache, pain, drama, tears, and brokenness?

I am preaching to myself too when I say…don’t let the Mommy Monster come out because of unnecessary expectations.

Proverbs 14:1 “A wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.”
